Knowing the rules of the road is crucial if you’re driving in Abu Dhabi. UAE drivers have a duty to drive responsibly. Keeping up with the traffic laws in Abu Dhabi will save you money on traffic fines and ensure that you drive safely.
In the first six months of 2021, Abu Dhabi Police issued more than 27,000 fines for distracted driving.
Another report says that more than 700 drivers were fined Dh2,000 for driving noisy cars in Abu Dhabi. There are also fines that can reach Dh3000 if dirty vehicles are parked for a longer duration.
It can be difficult, however, for someone new to Abu Dhabi to grasp all these rules and understand the lengthy list of violations and fines.
To make things easier for you, we divided traffic violations into different categories based on their nature.

Black Points
Black Points reflect the quality and driving skills in you as a driver. You receive a fine and a black point for every law you break.
Your license will be suspended if you accumulate more than 24 black points.
The least black points you get is 4, while the maximum is 23.
In most cases, black points are added to the driver’s license, but if the driver happens to be unavailable, the points are added to the owner’s license.
